1st Secret of a Champion: Cultivate Character

An excerpt from the book The Code Of Champions – Cultivate Character:

You will know a champion. People trust him. This is the basic ingredient of life. Everything starts with trust; nothing lasts without trust. With trust you get things done; without trust nothing gets done, and what was done could easily get unraveled. The champion’s credibility precedes him. And credibility is the face of one’s character. He stands on the side of right. Always. Warren Buffet, the business wizards says, “I look for three things when hiring people. The first is personal integrity, the second is intelligence, and the third is a high energy level. But if you don’t have the first, the other two will kill you.”

2nd Secret of a Champion: Have A Heart

An excerpt from the book The Code Of Champions – Have A Heart:

You will know a champion. Working with him is a joy. He comes across as a friend because deep inside he truly cares for others. And you can feel it. Concern is not a duty to be complied with; it is his motivation for action. He gets out of his comfy bubble to get things done, ever generous with his best yet devoid of a personal agenda. His one desire is the success of others. You can feel his sincerity. He nurtures connections with others — not to polish this reputation — but to inspire and empower them to reach for a common mission that will spell the common good. This creates a strong sense of mutual openness. Everyone wants to be on his team.

3rd Secret of a Champion: Aim For A Mission

An excerpt from the book The Code Of Champions – Aim For A Mission:

You will know a champion. He inspires. He lives a purposeful life; he has clearly laid out that which he could be and do, the pursuit of which ignites his passion. But he could also be resilient when it comes to the pursuit of his dreams. He too knows what does not belong to him and he would not allow such bright shiny objects to zap him dry of his energies. Simply said, he knows his reason to get up every morning.

The American Philosopher Peter Koestenbaum in his article “Do You Have The Will To Lead? asserted, “Unless the distant goals of meaning, greatness, and destiny are addressed, we can’t make an intelligent decision about what to do tomorrow morning — much less set strategy for a company or for a human life.”

The champion inspires the rest of us because he refused to live the superficiality of our half-truths and cozy strategies of living. Mary Piper, a clinical psychologist observes, “Girls are caught in the crossfire of our culture’s mixed sexual message. Sex is considered both a sacred act between two people united by God and the best way to sell suntan lotion.” It’s not just sex; everything seems to be peddled around today dressed in half-truths because that is what is comfortable and conformable to us. End result? Split lives. Confused vision. Abandoned dreams.

4th Secret of a Champion: Maintain Balance

An excerpt from the book The Code Of Champions – Maintain Balance:

You will know a champion. He is engaged. He has made the choice to attend to life. Definitely. The sidelines are not for him. You will find him on a run, but never in a rush. Sometimes, slowing down is a must, but not to a full stop. And even if the red lights are flashing, the murmurs of his heart and mind never pause. All departments of life are given the right amount of time. Among the myriad of options offered to him, he has made his choices about what he wants to happen in his life. He has defined what success is for him. And he will make it happen. He knows his priorities.

5th Secret of a Champion: Prioritize The Spirit

An excerpt from the book The Code Of Champions – Prioritize The Spirit:

You will know a champion. People find him genuine. He follows reason, but he accepts the imponderables. Pain remains a mystery, but still embraced as a friend. He makes things happen, but never despairs of mistakes and bitter defeats. His love is heroic, expecting no returns. His humility is his staying power. He makes peace with his wounds and weaknesses, transforming them as the source of his strength. The champion has no extraordinary powers; he only has a God who knows, and who cares. The embrace of God around his soul is never the object of doubting questions. He senses the presence of the Divine around which he organizes his life. He never walks alone. And he knows it.

6th Secret of a Champion: Stay The Course

An excerpt from the book The Code Of Champions – Stay The Course:

You will know a champion. People find him reliable. When he says he’ll be there for you, sleep tight, he’ll be there. He sticks to his commitments. His word is his own rule. He is no quitter. Persistence is one of his consistent traits. 364 out of 365 days a year are ordinary days, nothing big or unusual is happening, still he never lets his guard down. You won’t catch him sliding into mindless loafing. Only once will he miss the action, and that is, when he is bedridden. Some guys come across as sore losers living boring lives. He is not one of them. Definitely.
